I liked Book 1 more in that respect. It was more "into the unknow" so to spreak. Also the main story was longer in book 1 as far as i can remember...

Nonetheless, everthing else is better in book 2.

you know i have to agree with you (iamrichard) i think EB1 had alot better plot it was amazing as i was playing EB1 i lacked the great gameplay that EB2 has but when i was palying i felt that i'm actually there it was by all means amazing and better than EB2's plot
and the quest's wern't alot but but they really gave the feeling that i was playing the best RPG game ever.

i forgot to mention this before but bw why did you have to go and do the same thing everyone does include aliens in the game i mean seriously i don't think i've ever seen a movie or a game that doesn't at least talk about the existence of alien life.
it's true that we finally got to see one of the orakurs but did you absolutly had to make em aliens but if you had to then it's ok

Regarding the plot...

I have seen a lot of people speculate about the storyline, and I have yet to see anyone "guess" correctly where the story is going. This topic will be much more valid after Book III is released.

Overall, I think it is impossible for anyone to come up with a truly "untold story" anymore. I have not watched a movie or read a book in the past 20 years that was not just a reconstituted meatloaf of other plots, and certainly Eschalon borrows some well-worn elements (amnesia beginning, main character has a secret life, evil threatening the world). However, by the end of the trilogy, I hope people look back fondly on the storyline as being entertaining and marked by twists and surprises.

But, we can't please everyone. Even the best movies, books, or games will have critics; Eschalon is certainly no different. For those of you who decide you don't enjoy the storyline, we hope the old-school gameplay mechanics makes up for it. Afterall, there are plenty of AAA games out there that have neither good storyline or enjoyable gameplay, and yet they will still make 1000x more profit than Eschalon is likely to ever make.

...well, I for one have been really enjoying the overall plot. When I got to the ending of Book II, I just about wanted to chuck my laptop in frustration and immediate need for Book III to see how it all pans out!!!

Is it too early to pre-order? :D

I Like the plot but the gameplay mechanics are IT for me ;).
Still i hope that book3 is longer regarding the main quest. Also i certainly hope there are more towns and more side quests.

Book1 gave me a better feeling of progress, like to see that back in book3.

But overall, good job for an one man company!

Game mechanics + flavour do more for me than plot.
I lose the plot anyway over the course of dozens of hours. Subplots are driving me along more than the main plot. I appreciate those things that can be solved in 1-2 hours or so.

It's all a rum induced dream. Seriously, Captain Morgan was an easy give away clue to where this was heading.

I havent completed Book 2 yet, but am certainly enjoying it almost as much as book 1. I would say that I think that story is important but whats moreso important, is the stats/character class that you made in that game. Sometimes options that are available make the story of a usually boring game friggin awesome.

I think the reason why these games are so good is because they have an excellent mix of both which isnt seen as much. The character statistic system in these games offers complete freedom and the story is cool too.

Ive already seen Avernum and Geneforge get put on Gog, now its the Eschalon Series turn so everyone can enjoy the story of these awesome games.

I had to go with book I eeking out over Book 2, mostly because i havent finished book II and i do not know why i havent.

I think part of it is definitely the into the unknown factor. Not that i know where book II is heading, but i also found that with book I i was more driven to finish it as well, where in Book II, i just got to a point and stopped.

partially because of my build, and partially because i just got kinda bored.

(and ill admit, beta testing another game, other games coming out, etc had a huge factor in book II where book I i was starving for a great game.)
