Concerning the quest, Assistance from Lorewitch, which is optional.

Are there any reasons NOT to do it and/or reasons to do it beyond getting backup? Like I have to trade the Mage Games Silver Goblet and the "no thank you" answer is more like "I'm good enough to do it on my own."

So, any benefits to not doing it?

I never used the wand I got from them, because even though it's a freaking magic wand, it breaks True Mage challenge... so basically I never needed their backup and probably would have been better off nuking them and grabbing their loot.

But in more direct answer to your question: I know of no more benefit than xp and loot-which-you'll-probably-just-sell.
