Need reccs!

Post by MegaHassan »

Can I get any long lasting INDY RPG recs for the PC that can run on a shitty laptop outside of the Spiderweb games? And Eschalon of course :P My summer holidays just started and I need something to keep me occupied when I'm not outside breaking shit

Would prefer if it wasn't in the jap/FF style of RPGs, since they get old real fast. I've been following the Aveyond series since the days of Ahriman's Prophecy however, and I dig that series

You don't like jRPG, but you like Aveyond? Stange... :D

Did you try Lilly & Sacha Curse of the Immortals from John Wizard?

Or take a look at my post about Indie Studios, maybe you can find something in there.

Been thru most of em, and the problem is that a large portion of these 'indy' rpg's are all this generic FF crap which as I said before, can't get into beyond good ol' Aveyond. I've been trying hard to find something along the lines of Avernum and Eschalon, but the best I've come across are the slightly modified Ultima VI games played thru Exult  And they really don't count as indy obviously.

So yeah basically, none of that cude and cuddly jap artwork sheibe... I want ballsy old style RPGs by indy developers which I can barely find for some reason. What's the use of listening to Manilla Road and Medieval Steel when you can't find good games to blast them along with?

The Best GameMaker JPRG FF-clone ever actually was not Aveyond (which is probably in the top 2, though). It was called "The Last Scenario" (yes, even the name says "Final Fantasy knockoff", but all the GameMaker games are). Last Scenario looked pretty generic at first, but ... well. just play it. It makes up for everything in the writing, especially towards the end.

Downloading. Screens look promising, but I doubt it'll hold me longer than 2 hours unless it's really as good as Aveyond.

What the hell is up with all these RPG Maker Games anyway?? O_O It's like how anyone who's learnt 3 chords on a guitar and put on some facepaint decides to make a 'black metal' band in his bedroom =S

That's because RPG Maker is an RPG Stamper. You just pump 'em out like you would stamping an envelope. It's easy to put out a "two dimensional" game, but to add actual depth and uniqueness you need to learn the programming side... and who has time for that ?? 0_o

Well, it certainly looks that way.

But if they have the patience and the drive, then all the power to them. :D

This is why we need a separate forum dedicated to bringing developers and artists and writers together so we can all create as many cool indie games as possible.

After all: Writers and visual artists don't have the patience to learn programming, and programmers either don't write or draw well or don't have the time and energy to do everything themselves.

BW is a special case. There simply aren't enough BW's to go around.

We should start a movement.

And if not a separate forum for the purpose: maybe a separate website. Dedicated to the facilitation of as many quality indie games as possible.
Certainty: a character-driven, literary, turn-based mini-CRPG in which Vasek, legendary "Wandering Philosopher", seeks certainties in a cryptically insular, organic, critically layered city.

There's always Rogue/Nethack/Moria/Angband/any of the other billion Rogue-likes. They'll run on pretty much anything. I still to this day play those games (mainly ZAngband) to this day from time to time.
