Do class differ other than starting skill ?

Post by john »

Is there a real difference to classes ? I.e, if i made a warrior with a set of skill (say swords) and stats; would it behave any different than a rogue that at the end had the exact same stats and skills ?

No particular difference. In Eschalon, classes and axioms, together, define what titles you get as you level up and what your starting free skill is, but after that character development is completely open. It's purely a matter for your own role playing in the game.

There was a plan to do individual "class" quests in Book II, but that would have extended development a lot more so it was dropped. Perhaps it will appear in Book III.

As I recall, the formula for how you gain HP and MP are subtly different depending on your class.

This is correct. The three big differences as a result of your starting Class/"Title" are:
  1. Your actual starting Title (also depended on gender - details here).
  2. Your starting weapon. (This one's somewhat important, I guess - again, details here).
  3. How many HP and MP points you gain upon each level-up (e.g. whether your MP gain on level-up is dependent on INT, or WIS - details here: post is from Book I, but it's the same formulas for Book II).
