Once you're over level 10 it's all wolves and bandits. Wolf pelts sell for tons and bandits can drop anything, including epic necks and bronze weapons.
Even if you're playing on Hardcore, you have food and water right there in Everdale.
What else could you ask for? Build your mansion right there on the promenade, people!
That's actually really nice to know. Even though in Book II is designed so that you don't ever have to grind, it can still help. I'll probably use that sometime in the future with a special class I try the game with.

I'm a complete-ist and all, but I can never motivate myself to grind in this game. It might make more unconventional builds playable, though, which would be fun.
For XP, the best grind area is evidently the rift - the harpies are relatively easy to kill and give lots of XP.
Both correct. And I'd add the thought that some builds start out wimpy and get really outrageous by the time you get them totally set up. Always nice to have the leverage to play the game the way you want to play and experiment with things.
Oh, maybe one additional thought: Zombies in (spoiler! westwillow) are probably better for XP once you get to the point where you can 1-shot them with an active melee ability or take them out with a couple spells. You can get attacked by between 4 to 8 of them just by resting and they give something like 180 xp each. Quite a bit less HP and quite a bit less work to manage than harpies, in my experience.
I usually grind on trolls or harpies - they yield the most xp/encounter.
however, harpies respawn a little bit slower.
trollgrinding - fill up in Port Kuudad and Dwarven City , buy all kinds of herbs, potions, arrows, demon oil, max out potions.
travel north and stop at once - the southern mires are good enough spot, and it`s easy to run south, if necessary.
average troll pack that disturbs you while camping yields around 2000 exp.
same for harpies, but the very location is more remote
usually I get around 40000 exp before I run out of arrows and potions, 50k if I`m very careful and use h2h weapons more often.
once I camped until grinded 70k exp, gosh that was tedious...
