Final Playthrough (For a while)
Final Playthrough (For a while)
I'm doing one more playthrough of Book II in anticipation of Book III. I had tons of plans, and want to do a ton of challenges, so I have a few questions. Any other questions I have during this playthrough will also be added to this topic.
My general plan was to make a character with so much endurance that he regenerates health faster than he can possibly lose it, or just has tons of fricken' health. I also want to have basic rouge skills, spot hidden, move silently, and dodge. I am planning on only using unarmed combat however.
So: Questions.
Is it even feasible to try and accomplish the endurance goal?
Is there a cap to HP Regen, similar to Mana Regen, and if so, what is it?
Of the 4 skills I mentioned, what percent of points would you give each one? In other words, if I had 100 points, how many points would you put into each one?
Which is more worth it: Getting the untouchable challenge, or getting the exp from the bells? Obviously this is a matter of opinion, but I'd like to know which you guys would choose.
Thank you for your answers in advance! Once again I'm extremely open to suggestion, so if you have other ideas, please let me know. I'm not going to entirely change my game style, but minor suggestions I might implement.
I'll be posting more questions later on.

Re: Final Playthrough (For a while)
Endurance caps at 1 per turn, but having lots of endurance does raise resistances to damage. This really helps with no armor challenges and cuts down on base encumbrance so you can carry more loot per trip.

Re: Final Playthrough (For a while)
If you're not wearing much for armor (or doing the no armor challenge), I wouldn't even worry much about Move Silently. Get your Unarmed over 10, then pump up the Dodge to a decent level for the extra defense, then up Spot Hidden and Unarmed together. I'd say you don't need more than 15 in Spot hidden, though I've never particularly tested its effect. 32 in Unarmed for maximum feat refresh rate. 3 in move silently just because, and you can have a 50 dodge, meaning half the swings that would hit your armor rating will still end up missing you and often giving you a big advantage in hitting back.
But, your mileage may vary.

Bell Tree demands a sacrifice! Vroqren mustn't collect the bells and is restricted to his starting attire! All hail the Bell Tree!

Re: Final Playthrough (For a while)
My testing has shown Move Silently not to do much in Book II. If someone has experienced otherwise, though, I'd be interested to hear about it.
Re: Final Playthrough (For a while)
Awesome - thank you guys so much. That's basically exactly what I wanted to hear.
So - it looks like this is what I'll be trying to create a sumo wrestler with the reflexes of a ninja. Hmm... Not physically possible, but who says it's not possible in Eschalon?
EDIT: Oh, and I won't be grabbing the bells I guess.
I'll also be playing on extreme difficulty (food/water, determined seed, no saving while poisoned, almost dead, or near enemies... and I forgot the last one.
)
These are the ingame challenges I'll be trying to obtain:
Hellbringer
The True Warrior
The True Thief
The Immaculate
I've never used any feat except the Warriors with swords. (Riposte I believe?)
What is the Unarmed combat feat?

I believe it's called "Devastating Blow." You do 3 or 4 times damage with a single punch.Vroqren wrote: What is the Unarmed combat feat?
Hell, get your End up high enough and at late levels you could probably get enemies around you and punch an exploding barrel to kill them all while you survive.

Re: Final Playthrough (For a while)
That sounds like the best idea I have ever heard. I think I have to try it now! Heh - punch one of the barrels that kills the golem. This is going to be a fun playthrough.
Re: Final Playthrough (For a while)
Bonus with this one - if you have this Unarmed Combat feat, Devastating Blow, an exploit(?!) allows you to use it with the 'Plasma Wand' as well. Makes defeating General Ghorr at the end a real breeze...Kreador Freeaxe wrote:I believe it's called "Devastating Blow." P.S. Someone upthread said that HP regen. "caps out" a 1 HP per turn - I'm not sure that's correct. I've never taken END higher than END=40 on my end (and the regen. rate at END=40 is about 1 HP per turn...), but I think if you take it up to END=60-80, you might get a higher regen. rate than 1 HP per turn. Hopefully someone else that's tested this can tell me if I'm wrong or not...

Re: Final Playthrough (For a while)
At Endurance 62 it's still 1 per turn.
Re: Final Playthrough (For a while)
Alright - good to know.
Two more questions I forgot to ask in the OP:
Lets say I'm going to only put points into 4 attributes, Speed, Strength, Endurance, and Dexterity: How should I divide 100 points into all of those, and should I even use all of them?
What stats should I roll for when I start the character? Obviously all 15's would be best, but I mean a practical roll I can get in no more than 2 minutes of rolling. What stats do I want highest, and what stats don't need as many points?
I'm gunna start right after this is answered basically.

I've never have much luck with unarmed but your build sounds interesting, so keep us informed of your progress.

Re: Final Playthrough (For a while)
I would focus on Strength and Endurance more than Speed and Dex, though the latter two will be helpful. Assuming you start with all of them above 10, with rolls of 14 in each Strength and End. Use the origin choice to up your End to 16 and Male to get your Str to 15. Get Dex and Speed to 15, then all the other starting points into End. Should start around 30. Pump End the first few levels to 40 or 45 for good hit points per level-up, then focus on Str with a little into Speed for the added Unarmed Combat benefit and armor rating benefit.

Re: Final Playthrough (For a while)
Alright - it's going good so far, I'm about an hour in. One problem I hadn't thought about though is locked chests: I'm not allowed to bash them open with the true thief, so I had to spend three skill points on pick locks.
Also, the Unarmed combat feat is called: Fury Strike, and deals 4X extra damage.
Another question: Where is the pick locks trainer? Is it Zeblin? And is there a trainer for dodge?

Re: Final Playthrough (For a while)
No dodge trainer, but there is a book.
Zeblin will train for locks, but you need some lock and trap skill to get to him.
