Level Up - Skill Point Assignment Improvement Needed

Post by Tecknomage »

There is one thing I do not like in Eschalon, the assignment of Skill Points when you Level Up.

Since point assignment is not the [+]/[-] method you can end up assigning Skill Points then find out you don't have enough points left for a skill you really want.

SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENT: Have the cost of each skill displayed in the right-hand list.

This would give players an better idea of what skills they can and want to assign Skill Points to.

Alternative, have a better description of skill costs in the manual.

Of course, this is moot if there is a way to know what each skill costs that I am not aware of.

whats the issue? All the skills have the same cost to buy. 3 for the first level and 1 there after. Your suggestion is pretty meaningless and wasteful.

im not following you

it seems that skill point assignment is as straightforward as can be

now what each point actually does is another thing

AFAIK right-clicking on a skill decreases it's level, if you changed your mind. Works only during a single level-up session.

what would be really nice is if you can reallocate your skill points after you, inevitably, regret them later on

like a sage guy npc you meet or some shit like that

I'm not sure either of what the problem is, it costs 3 points to "buy" a new skill or one point to raise an existing skill by one point, in either character creation or level up. You can take points back during a session, but once you exit the editor, they are locked in.

But, as skinny said, to know the effect of that additional point will have on the skill is a whole different thing. In Cartography, for instance, you can see immediate differences in the addition of points at lower levels, say up to level 7 or 8, but above that I was not able to tell with my first character, who I took to 10 in Cartography, what improved above level 7.

You have your opinion, but I did not see your info in the manual. May have missed it.

But thanks for the answer, it's what I was looking for :D

I believe that at the last level up while browsing skills I've seen a "Buy this skill for 3 points" message.
