There's this mini quest in north parish which is similar to what you seek. It's not exactly a starter quest but it's pretty accessible during the first few hours of the game.

Well, the spell damage caps, i.e. level 6 can still remain. What i think is that we need to have higher damage output for the higher level spells, i.e. supernova.
