Re: Reinventing yourself:
I read your original post Rush. Like most said, it was a very good thought provoking question which required some thinking time. (Some of us are older and it takes longer)
I Personally always liked Elven Archers, (If the enemy can't reach you they can't hurt you.)
Next up, depending on the magic in the game I favor dwarves with magic resistance.
Every nite I kill about an hour before bed playing an older microprose release called majesty. I'm always replacing warriors, Paladins, Thieves, Rangers Etc. The one I very seldom have to replace is the Monk!
This seems to be the way I'm leaning now. Half way through Eschalon again, unarmed, blessed, stoneskin, nimbleness,
gangs of thugs - no problem! We'll see how he finishes?
(By the way, I want to stay Human.)

Re: Reinventing yourself:
Very cool, Jakapa.
I was thinking about it, after I read your post, and was wondering whether or not I should have put something in the equation about death. As in...do we live forever within this brave new world, or do we age and die, and if we die...what then?
I don't know...now that I think about it, death and the beyond are private aspects of life, dealt with upon an individual to individual basis, and, well...maybe it was best to leave it out altogether.
Forget I said anything (grins).

Re: Reinventing yourself:
Okay, done my thinking.
I think I'd like to be halfelf, partly for long life and good night vision but I don't want to live so long I'd get bored. Druid with skills in surface mining (mainly gemstones), artistic to design and make jewelry/crafts from the gems I find and get income. Of course the home skills of cooking, weaving, making clothing, gardening and be able to use bow and scimitar to defend myself. Being able to read and write, speak several languages and have lots of animal companions/friends.
I've done most of the above in this life including the gem mining - sapphires, garnets, quartz, agate. Okay, I don't go to the steambeds or mountain sites to do searching
I buy what they call 'sapphire gravel' in bags and sort through that. Lots of fun and have over 15 that I've had cut and set aside to be made into rings or necklaces. 1/2 carat to 3 carat in size. The smaller stones are just not 'profitable' enough for me to do that. (you find a rough stone and 1/2 to 2/3 of the stone is lost when it is cut by the way of tidbit of info.
)

Awesome,
Wish I could have been able to use a scimitar. Especially when the kids turned into teenagers, I always wondered how others delt with them.
I'm jealous of your Gem skills, that's really an art form.
Rush: Your last post almost reminds me of one of my most favorite games of all time. Another Microprose game called Darklands. Lost lots of sleep because of that one. Set in Medevial Germany, fairly open ended, no ending other than growing too old (game time). Create four characters. Skills built by use and decreased with age of character. As you got older you had to hire younger warriors for the front line. Loads of fun. If your character died, just pick another leader and carry on.
Primarily why the game was a total flop.... All the reviewers wanted a definite end to the game.
Was mostly popular with the 50+ crowd.

Um...Dragonlady, if we suddenly found ourselves inside of this fantasy world...please hide your gems. I'd be a thief, you know, and while I would never steal from friends, the temptation alone would be very distracting (grins).
Jakapa, Darklands sounds very, very cool. I don't suppose the game is around anymore? I guess I'll go type Darklands and Microprose into my search engine just to see. Do you have any other recommendations (like Darklands) that are still around today?
Thanks for posting...

Re: Reinventing yourself:
you will findf it on that abondoned games site I think....
Re: Reinventing yourself:
Thanks, Rune. I never thought to look there. I've been reading about it here and there by way of a yahoo search. The game was full of bugs, and by the time those bugs were fixed (for the most part) most players were too frustrated to give it another go. It does sound cool, though.

Ha, I ain't stupid, why else would I have seamstress skill? So I can sew hidden pockets and stuff in my clothes, etc.!

Oh, and I don't have scimitar skill, wish I did. Did used to have bow skill in my younger days and I mean younger, like 23. Heh

Re: Reinventing yourself:
Well, I cheat and use ready made gem prongs and stuff. I have made some silver, brass stuff using the 'lost wax method' which I learned in Jr. College art class, including some silver statues of dragons and a dragonshaped necklace. I've also done and sold oil paintings, oil pastels, pen and ink and clay crafts. Gave it up when it got too much of a hassel carting stuff to local malls when they had art shows by myself and had to have someone watch my young son. I do know one of my oil paintings was bought and taken to South Carolina. Artistic talent runs in my family.Jakapa wrote:Awesome,

It was fun and kept me in paperback money when things were tight budget wise.
