Armor question
Armor question
The Manual says light armor is all leather and chain mail armors. However in game I have some chain mail boots and a hard leather hauberk and they are both listed at heavy armors. Is this a bug?

Nor does character generation. If you read the description for light armor chain is included.
EDIT: I just found a chest containing a chain coif which was considered light armor.

Ok thanks. I think I remember a discussion on this before. So hard leather banded armor is also supposed to be heavy armor? It's that why in game. I was planning on using chainmail thinking it was good enough to only spend points in light armor, but looks like im going need to put points into heavy armor. The light stuff doesn't look very effective, unless your a rogue I guess.BasiliskWrangler wrote:More of a typo than a bug.Originally, chain was going to be considered light armor, but during balancing it was determined than all chain mails should be considered heavy rather than light.
Apparently the manual does not reflect this change. Apologies!

1. Yes - the Plate looks cooler. My first (and only for now) character with whom I won the game was in full (almost) Adamantine Plate Set and he looked really cool - very shiny and with some golden elements.
2. Yes - like Thomas said - Light Armor Items have many bonuses unlike Heavy Armor items which nearly haven't any (besides additional armor but that can be Imbued by yourselfs anyway). But Heavy Armor have the most points of Armor therefore the lowest chance of successful enemy hit.
So it's a matter of a personal preference.
3. About Cloak in particular: Yes - like Thomas said - there are Heavy Cloak, but the Light ones are with really irreplaceable bonuses (in my opinion).
So you can have 1 point of Light Armor for Cloaks from a book and everything will be fine
For my new character I consider Light Armor build for some Ranger (like Arcane Archer), but I still strongly hesitate.

Having gone through the game and seen a few of the end-game pieces, I have to say that I now think that light armor is the way to go. With the ability to imbue armor +3 for each piece, heavy armor is not actually all that different to light armor in terms of AR. The light armor also seems to have most of the really good pieces (I can think of a single set of gauntlets as being an exception to this rule, but you can get a ring that does exactly what they do, and wear two of them).
For a generalist character, its almost a no-brainer - particularly when you factor in strength and casting (I say this from a convenience point of view, I hate switching to cast spells).
For a melee character without access to alchemy, and who doesn't want to imbue items, heavy may be better. However, this is a bit of a stretch imo.
Also, I'm a bit confused on what chainmail should be. In my game, half the chainmail pieces are light armor, and are treated as such by the engine, whilst the other half are heavy (and treated as such). Should they all be heavy? If so, this may be a bug?
