Are some resting spots "safer" than others?

It doesn't seem to be, but one of my favorite things about the old Gold Box games was that there were spots that were designated as "safe spots" for you to rest. I was wondering if (or possibly for Book 2) this were true for Eschalon?

I would think an added benefit to clearing out a campsite of the enemy would be the ability to use it as a safe resting spot thereafter.

Interesting .. I'll do some testing and see if that is true.

they don't repopulate, but they do arrive from random encounters. it is one way you can always boost up your level easier for begining character.

If you are going to rest outdoors, rest in short intervals. The longer you rest the more likely you will have a random encounter. You can rest for a short while and wake up, then go back to resting. It seems to limit the number of random encounters and you get to fully heal and restore mana. If you want a random encounter to get the experience just keep resting you will hear that bump in the night. :D

I always rest through the night, and I very seldom get a random encounter and I can always see very well outside :)

If you rest inside someplace with the door shut you can at least avoid getting swarmed in your sleep (since patch 1.2 or 1.3, anyway). I found the monster spawning slowed down when I got to higher levels .. just when they started to drop worthwhile loot. 8>.

What dak you get to rest through the night. I always seem to attract random encounters. Must be the scent I am wearing. :o

Actually, Shadowmirk in the lobby after you kill the eye is a good place to rest. I was not randomly attack there. I guess it has to do with all those mages running around.

hmm, well I always start when it is too dark to see, and stop at first light.. maybe you sleep longer than that??

And is it just my luck or are the only camping encounters at higher levels Tauraxes? I'm close to my next level so I thought I'd go camp in the Tangletree Ossuary in a dark spot to take advantage of my skills (Hide in Shadows, Move Silent, Pred Sight, Cat's Eyes) for some XP and all that spawns are Tauraxes! In an Ossuary? Why Tauraxes everywhere? You don't even see a Taurax until late in the game then they seem to be everywhere! At 185 XP they are nice enough for quick XP, but some variety and logic behind encounters would make the game a bit more immersive.
Be nice if camping spawns weren't just level driven. Make them dependent on location as well. Ossuary: undead. Vela: Goblins and Taurax. Grimhold: Goblins. Salted Coast: Thugs. Shadowmirk: Eyeballs and undead. Etc etc etc.
