Sounds like your melee build wasn't quite optimal. With piercing weapons, pumping dexterity gives damage, to hit and armor, and strength is a waste. (Also the spear in the undead village is quite good but you can find a better one later in the game)
Your weapon skill wasn't high enough. 32 gives ...

Re: Need a new game
I am also wondering if it is worth it to play Stone Prophet, Menzoberranza, Eye of the Beholder III or Lands of Lore. I missed them all in that time since I was still with the Amiga back then.

Re: Smoking?
I don't understand smoking either. The few times I've tried it, smoking a cigarette didn't give me any sort of high unless something a bit stronger was mixed in.

Well you could give a list of what you've played so we'd know what not to recommend.

Re: Healer Build Q's
The AR boost is nice, but the to-hit and damage are much more easily accomplished by pumping bow skill. I'd much rather spend 59 points on Endurance to have tons of HP and regen 1/turn or on Perception and have crazy support magic.

Re: Just Finished It
I agree it's a great game. A nice story to prod you along while you enjoy the fun mechanics and gameplay.
My only complaint is that the guy walks a little too slow once I've cleared and mapped an area and I'm just passing by.

Re: Healer Build Q's
Depends on your class, Spotted Shroom. In this case as a healer/paladin type, I agree, but for a Ranger, Dex and Con are the two most important stats.
How do you figure? Both are going to give you small skill boosts, but skill points are much easier to come by than stat points. I've never ...

Bah, I'll just stick to Dungeon Crawl.ManusDei wrote:Oh yeah, did I mention you can transform into a FIRE-BREATHING DRAGON after the first 10-20 hours of game (about 1/4 of game) ? You can't attack ground enemies while in dragon-form (they tried but couldn't put it in the game)

Re: RPGWatch RPG of the Year
I don't understand the results. The voting was top-3 right? What does the % mean? The % of answers in which the game was included in the top 3? Is the site so big that they really have 40 editors, only one of which included Eschalon in the top 3(2,5%=1/40)?

Re: Items & materials
it doesnt always work out that way. i have a character with ancient dragon skin boots, base armor rating +6, as well as a pair of "regular" dragon skin boots, base armor +7.
also keep rare/named equipment in mind...

Re: Healer Build Q's
This was the type of character I did my first playthrough with, it's quite fun IMO! Thoughts:
-When calculating stat/skill points available, know that the character will likely end up at around lvl 20 or so if you do quests but aren't camping for eternity for enemies to spawn. Say, 20 lvlups from 1 ...

A mage spent a couple of months sleeping in his bed. Every 7 days he visited his friends the blacksmiths with the help of Portal. Here's what he found out.

@Kreador Freeaxe
Thanks for the reply. I might have enough skillpoints available to make the shield skill useful, and while the diagonality almost doesn't sound like a feature it's certainly interesting. The diagonal tricks might also be useful in combination with Dense Nimbus...

Re: For the folks yearning for respawns...
Pretty much that, yeah. I guess starting a new game in a second session clears the Basilisk Games\Book 2 Saved Games\tmp folder. From there one could manually target specific maps for respawning.

For the folks yearning for respawns...
So... I think I might have discovered something. Try this y'all(or skip to the end of post for explanation):
-Load up the savegame of your baddest bad dude of them all who's about to fight the end boss or something. Preferably he's yet to enter the end boss castle so he can quickly go to Yoma ...
